Buying guide

Best used scooters under $3,000.

Five scooters that actually make sense at this price. Reliable, parts-available, hold their value. Skip everything not on this list — under $3,000 you don't want surprises.

Honda Ruckus 50

$1,800-$2,800

The cult favorite. Chunky tires, exposed frame, 49cc Honda reliability. No-frills city ride. 70+ MPG. Holds value better than any other 50cc — used Ruckus at 5 years old still fetches 70-80% of new MSRP.

Genuine Buddy 50/125/170i

$1,400-$2,800

Italian-styled, Taiwan-built, parts everywhere. The 170i Buddy is the sweet spot — 75 MPH cruise, 80+ MPG, easy to work on. Buddy 50 is a city-only.

Yamaha Zuma 50

$1,500-$2,400

Off-road-styled 49cc. Sportier than the Ruckus, parts are widely available. Great first scooter, slow on highways.

Vespa LX 50/150

$1,800-$2,900

The Vespa name premium is real but worth it for liquidity — easy to resell, holds value, parts plentiful. Avoid pre-2008 unless restored — emissions changes broke a lot of older Vespas.

Lance Cabo 200i

$1,400-$2,200

Unsung value play. 200cc Honda-clone engine, 75 MPH, 90+ MPG, $2,000 for a clean used one. Less liquid than Vespa but the riding experience is similar.
